Software 4 Retail Solutions is growing, and we’re looking for software interns and entry-level developers to help build mobile and cloud-based applications for the grocery and convenience-store vertical markets.

You’d be working on real software that real retailers use — designing, coding, testing, and debugging user interfaces using standard concepts and principles, across applications in retail data analysis and business intelligence.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for software people who:

  • Have coding experience, ideally with JavaScript and TypeScript using Angular and Ionic. HTML5 and CSS. SQL databases. Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms. We believe great software engineers learn quickly.
  • Are open to learning Electron, Kendo UI, HighCharts, D3.js, three.js, NoSQL, machine learning, and statistics where the work calls for it.
  • Translate real-world problems into elegant code solutions.
  • Understand the balance between crafting a robust, lasting solution and shipping something useful right now.
  • Are excited to have your work used by real people to solve real problems.
  • Don’t want to be a cog in the machine — you want to own your features.
  • Have a passion for code.
  • Want to participate in planning current and future development.

About the company

Software 4 Retail Solutions is a branch office of Data Systems, Inc. in Omaha. DSI is made up of 30 different grocery, c-store, and restaurant dealerships and over 500 associates — together the largest independent POS provider in North America. S4 is the only branch of DSI that writes and sells software resold by our dealers.

S4 has been in business since the mid-80s and has written software that interfaces to every major cash register company — IBM, Casio, NCR Voyix, Retalix, Radiant, and others — across the independent retail market. Our software runs in over 4,000 sites across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean.

We have two offices: Aurora, Nebraska, and Lincoln, Nebraska, in Haymarket Square downtown. We’re 16 people and growing.

What we build

  • S4 Back Office — inventory control, pricing, and sales reporting for all products in a store. Imports new item information from warehouses.
  • S4 Mobile — thin-client web program for mobile scanning devices. Check in product, print labels.
  • S4 Enterprise — multi-store environment management. Microsoft SQL data warehouse for transaction analysis, cashier fraud tracking, and customer insights.
  • S4 Shelf Image — sign and label printing software.
  • S4 Accounts Receivable — store-charging software.
  • S4Vision — real-time mobile analytics on top of S4Insight.
  • S4Insight — transaction data collection services that S4Vision and other analytics surfaces are built on.
