Why S4 exists
S4 is the software arm of Data Systems, Inc. (DSI) — the nation's largest independent provider of electronic retail systems. DSI has been serving supermarket, convenience, restaurant, and general-retail operators for more than 50 years through 23 regional Retail Data Systems offices, with 400+ trained professionals on the ground.
We started writing software because the big back-office systems were aimed at chains. Independent grocers — the operators who actually drive their neighborhoods — were stuck choosing between paying for chain-scale software they couldn't fully use, or making do with spreadsheets and reports that arrived a day late.
So we built software that works the way an independent operator actually works: on the POS systems they already own (NCR Voyix/Retalix, IBM SA/ACE, ScanMaster, S4 EzScan), in the back office and on the shelf and at the lane, with a local dealer they already know on the other end of the phone. The same suite scales from a single store to two hundred.
Today S4 is in over 4,000 sites across the US, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Most of them are family- or partner-owned operations that have been with us for a decade or more. That's the only review that matters to us.
